I've been thinking about the thoughts found in the writings behind my two main reads (John Michael Greer and Ugo Bardi) and their associated worldviews.  I have tried to connect them to my current worldview and what is happening in the world around us and what will be happening in the world around us.

I think that one of the main themes is the place of science and technology in the human and natural ecologies.

The civilizational systems we have put in place are there to ease the ability of our species to thrive and propogate.  really, they are nothing hore or nothing less than that.  Having the access to a couple of hundred million years worth of inefficiently stored sunlight has eased this goal immensely.

But as individuals, our place in the world has shrunk.  We are approaching 7.5 billion now, and the resources that we need to smooth the rough edges of the world are becoming down a bit on the hard-to-find side because they have to spread out over all those people.

Where Ugo is a strict materialist (as befits a Professor of physical chemistry) and John Michael is a spiritual/esoteric guy, one would think that trying to reconcile their two world views would be hard, but if you sit down for a time with some weed and some coffee, it really isn't all that bad.

So, where do we go from here?  Truth be told, the answer is probably down.
