I think that what bugs me the most about Fuckwad the Second is hair plugs and yelling.  My opinion regarding his competence remains firmly ensconced at the level of his predecessor;  Fuckwad the First.

Naïve Art (Primitivism) / Grandma Moses/ Sugaring Off

I realize that I am not the most optimistic person on the planet.  Yep.  Not in the least.

This flies directly in the face of the obligatory optimism that pervades the common tongue today.  Time must get better because if time get worse, that would mean that what we have is transient.  This is not a welcome train of thought anywhere here in the land of the free.

Folks point out to me that my gloom has not panned out into an apocalypse painting that they thought I was describing.  But truthfully, that was never, ever in the theme that I was painting.

Normal curves are pretty interesting things to look at and ponder.  One could argue the lifespan that I have been allotted encompasses the area immediately before and after the peak of a secular cycle.  I tend to think that the year that I graduated high school was the peak of the cycle and that the life this callow mark have just been a quite comfortable slide down a slope.

People think that I look back at history too much, after all, the same things can’t happen to us because we are smarter and better people than folks in the past.  Our society seems to have cast that judgement centuries ago and by god, we are sticking to it.  But I do want to point out that what seems to be the consensus date of the roman empire’s peak was around 117 AD and the consensus for it’s date of fall is 395 AD.  Two-hundred and seventy-eight years is quite a long time.

But one has to also look at the other end of the spectrum, the fucking limeys.  The sun never set on the empire in 1921.  But the Empire officially ended in 1997.  Seventy-six years is not really all that impressive when looked at with historical lenses.

Carolingian Empire is even harder to pin down.  I am calling its peak at around 807 AD, and it fall at 888 AD.  Let’s call it 81 years.

So, I am going to make a guess at the lower end of the peak/fall guesstimation.  I am going to call the decline and fall to be around eighty years (a little like Strauss–Howe generational theory without being an asshole).

So, if we are looking at 1972 as the American Empire’s Peak, and take the 80 years as the expected time to fall, and place a ten year range around both the dependent and independent variables, I came to a fall of empire for the land o’ the free between 2032 AD and 2072 AD.

So we are looking at a -year span ahead of us starting in around eight years.  I am figuring the probability of collapse will be around 2052 with a 1 in 3 chance with a decline before and after:

Percent chance of final collapse of American Empire

So.  fifty two is thirty years from now.  The chances of me seeing collapse is there, but there are thirty years of steadily increasing shit to deal with.  No end of world, no cannabalism, not apocalyptic plague, just a steady downward crawl where things get a little weirder each year and vain and awkward attempts to stabilize the situation are implemented.  I think that any attempt to pretend to return to the role of principle of the empire or re-establishment of the material excesses of the past will simply be stillborn.

Lowbrow Art / Robert Williams/ Island of Infantile Avarice

Ahhhhhhhhh.  Minor things to accomplish.  Nothing that I am particularly concerned about so if my production is low, that too can be easily managed.

I really do need to stop trying to plan as much as I have been trying to do lately.  I don’t have all the antecedent conditions cataloged yet, and the movable pieces are outside of my control.  I am not the grand chessmaster making everything right.  Truth be told, I have been relegated to a pawn’s role.  I have no real problem with that as I wasn’t especially fond of the other roles that I played in my life (Knight/Rook).

Right now I am just getting used to the idea that I don’t really answer to anyone.  I think I like it.

Lowbrow Art / Robert Williams/ Psychic Pedestrians On a Spiral Horizon (Barycenter)

Drinking tea on a Sunday morning.  Gonna spend time today being Betty Homemaker.

I am trying hard to stay disinterested.  I hope that I can stay out of either side's sites.  The trouble is that there are so many sides that it is a difficult navigation through a strait full of ways to run aground.

I am trying to keep tabs on all the factions that constitute the sandbar.  Not that I have any particular love for any of the worldviews being presented.  Nope, it is kind of like when you move into a new suburb and you spend the first little while just smiling and being pleasant while you tot up a mental inventory of your neighbors religions and political leanings so that you can steer clear of those particular subjects when you are one-on-one or you can vamoose when a group conversation is heading in a bad direction due to the vagaries of the group.

I am guessing that a lot of folks don’t bother with this.  For some odd reason, over the past twenty years or so folks don’t seem to bother taking this simple inventory into account.  I think that the biggest surprise to me is the parochialism of folks' worldviews.  I am coming to the conclusion that the hippie dippie nonsense of the sixties and the execrable slime coming out of the New Age moment has fully taken hold. Everyone seems to feel that, if they just wish and believe hard enough, their individual and self-centered worldview will suddenly become the gold standard throughout the myriad of individuals and cultures that constitute the planet’s population.

Nope, the world is not about a single “truth”.  It is a very large and very fine-grained spectrum of belief systems, many of which are mutually exclusive.  None of these have proved to be universal.  I sincerely doubt that any of them can be modified sufficiently to become so.

Gonna be glad when this weekend comes.

This is my new favorite, has a snowballs chance in hell of actually happening but scratches the itch of my desire to see weird shit occur that has no direct effect on me, kinda political woolgathering that is usually linited to times where whiskey and THC> 25mg have been introduced into the conversation.

I think that the next four years may see something come to the USA that has been around over in Old Blighty for years.  Let’s consider for a moment the shadow cabinet.

The shadow cabinet or shadow ministry is a feature of the Westminster system of government. It consists of a senior group of opposition spokespeople who, under the leadership of the Leader of the Opposition, form an alternative cabinet to that of the government, and whose members shadow or mirror the positions of each individual member of the Cabinet.[1] Members of a shadow cabinet have no executive power. It is the shadow cabinet's responsibility to scrutinise the policies and actions of the government, as well as to offer alternative policies. The shadow cabinet makes up the majority of the Official Opposition frontbench.

It is my opinion that such has been running here in the US for years under the careful tutelage of that master politician Barack.  I have never been particularly fond of the guy, but I gotta give him credit for being smart and as smooth as butter.  He is everything that the bulk of Americans like in a President, slick, smooth, sneaky, and for sale to the highest bidder.

It is my feeling that he got to liking being “the guy” and wasn’t willing to let go.  So he set up the deal to foil everything that Fuckwad the First was going to try and put together and put someone in place that would whistle to his tune.  Biden fit the bill perfectly as being a couple of cards short of a deck and Kamala was a second rater, just like he was that could be elevated into a figurehead as soon as Old Joe’s Presidential Portrait was finished and they could dust off that bit of awkwardness called the 25th Amendment.

So that is the groundwork for good Old Barack coming back into the realm.  I think that this is my new favorite “what if”.  #25 says that a president cannot be elected once he has served two terms.  Seems simple enough.  But what if he isn’t elected?  What if he is appointed.  Old Joe gets the #25 heave-ho, Kamala “Appoints” Barack and then the Supreme Court gets to sort it out.  That would be fun.

All the while, Fuckwad, in his incessant need for attention puts together a media world and draws in folks to peck away at everything that the new president attempts and fucks with the new administration with the same vigor that the Democrats displayed these last four years and goddamn if that wouldn’t be just a recipe for a fucked up country.

The sad part is, it really isn’t all that different than what we have now.  The reason that I like Carter is that once he was elected he walked away. Went to pounding nails and doing good works and was a gracious loser.

Ain’t gonna see that for a while.

Flows

Jesus, I am certainly pleased it is Friday.

A channel is the physical structure or circumstances that allow two separate events to be connected.  This is one of the realities of information.

Per Riccardo Manzotti, "Information here is simply the capacity of any channel to effect a causal coupling between two events."

So, in a holobiont, what constitutes the information?  What constitutes the flow?  What are the channels used to convey the information?

Right now, if you try to work with Riccardo's Spread Mind idea, you get an inkling of a link between things.  The link has memory and causal echoes.  When you try to work with Ugo's holobiont idea you start wondering if that the linkages may be intra rather than inter.

Lots of thinking to do here.

I don't usually get sick the way that I did the past couple of days.  My normal sick is a quick run up of chills, followed by spiking a bigtime fever, followed by sleep, then I am back to the grind.  This time was three days of yuckiness.  I am not used to dealing with that kind of nonsense.  It has been at least twenty years since something like this last happened.  Oh well, getting old I guess.

Much boredom these last three days.  Reading and snoozing has been the order of the day(s).  Swilling NyQuil and DayQuil to punctuate the tedium.  No deep thoughts.

Screed:

JMG got me a thinking again.  The bastard.  So, take a moment to read this post:

I sometimes have trouble figuring out if he is writing this stuff tongue in cheek or just tots it off casually between lunch and tiffin.

I think that I try to be balanced, but I fail.  This is not an unusual outcome.  I spent years of my life in the service of Ahrimanic evil and have spent the last fifteen years peeling the layers laid down in my last lives.  I have no intention of going down the path to the Luciferic.  Right now I feel that I am fairly well established in the genteel poverty that seems to be a prerequisite to contentment.

I am wondering when the pushback reaction to the sneering of the elites will happen in earnest.  Currently the politics and the media seem to think that there is a long way to go down the Luciferic path.  But sooner or later the blowback will begin and we can maybe get more folks sitting on the midline where most folks should reside.  But we have miles to go before we sleep on that one.

I slogged through the Nicomachean Ethics years ago at the insistence of the three Jesuits.  I remember it being pretty meaningful and helpful.  Then I forced the ex to watch a Mortimer Adler PBS show on the Ethics in the eighties (This kind of thing might be why she had the good sense to become an "ex").  I do remember and always try to keep in mind that virtue lies in the golden mean.
