Beavering Away
Jun. 20th, 2024 08:35 amThe world is attempting to test the limits of my paranoia, which is unfortunate.
I realize that I am probably overreacting, but I am going to try and seriously limit my presence on the net. Dreamwidth is safe in the sense that no one really cares what happens here in hippieland. At least that is my slant on the issue. Dreamwidth might take umbrage at this, but if I were them, I would be quite pleased about the fact of being a smallish, non-corporate player and be pretty ruthless about weeding out the far reaches of the lunatic fringe that might bring the man down on them.
I heartily approve of their taking a stand on the attempts by the State to legislate the first amendment, but there are real world ramifications of the attempt. I don't cruise the denizens of this little cul de sac, but it is my guess that there are some sites contained on their server that are worthy of gently nudging out.
I don't envy their job, and I thank them for providing me a place to write and put my thoughts down. But I would caution them to be careful. The Overton window is expanding, but the extreme 1% outside of the window can be a source of pain for the other 98%.
Thought must be given to the nature of being a publisher or a facilitator of publication. Fine lines must be walked. I don't envy the decisions that are going to be forced on them.
