Blue sky day, it might behoove me to get out and about.  Barometer is still up at around 30.3 in/hg  and the temp is already pleasant at 52℉.  No wind to speak of.  I think that life is pretty damn fine.

 I am coming to the realization that a lot of folks out there are again going through the tiresome Kubler-Ross and have gotten around halfway.  It is going quicker this time.  There also seems to be less true heat.

2016 was supremely annoying, folks were more militant then.  I made the mistake of voting for the Trumpster and paid the price in friendships.  Trump spent his four years not really doing anything in particular.  The system then drained him.  Then Biden got elected and the folks who voted for King Orange got their turn at snivelling their way through four years.

So the folks taking their turn at Lizzy Kubler-Ross this time are like the folks riding a roller coaster for the second time.  It just doesn’t have that emotional “zing”.  I think that what is happening right now is that Biden showed the same degree of fuckedupedness as Trumpy, and Kamala was about as appealing as a proctologist visit.  Force choices between two different anticipated bad outcomes explains the degree of angst.  If there was ever an election in the United States that screamed “damned if you do and damned if you don’t”, it was the 2024.

Everyone now is busily consuming the chaff that comes off any of the news outlets.  I wonder if anyone really reads or listens to anything outside of the structure of their already held beliefs.  What the two sides have in common is the simplistic idea that the other side is solely responsible for the bad things happening.

I am thinking that the next year or two are going to be quite annoying and will oppose my desire to exit by way of apathy and sloth.  I realize that my opinion is not really worth anything and that I should just deal with my lack of agency in anything that is happening in current events.  

Ideas concerning the way that things are happening in the world are still forming in my head.  But they are just ideas, they are ways to map the incomplete data currently being provided onto a mental model that didn’t work all that well in the first place.  Mostly they are a way for me to figure out if I need to change course to better ride the chaos that is inexorably heading my way.

The way I harvest beer yeast is, after bottling, add a jar of water to what's left, swirl it around, then decant to a jar, close and place in fridge. The yeast will eventually settle and you can tip out the liquid on top (or not). When you want to reuse it, just let it warm up to room temp and use it as the base of a starter. Works for me.

Since I am going to be making two batches nearly sequentially, I will be doing just that (thanks for the advice/reminder). I am thinking about how to store a batch for a long time. Back in the day when I was a lab rat (molecular biology) we used to freeze cells in a phosphate buffered saline/glycerol solution and we could revive them after two years without significant loss.

But, your comment got me thinking, maybe I don't need that level of complexity in a system which is my ode to life-simplifiction.

FWIW I've revived one that's been kept in the fridge for 6 months successfully.
