Raining and Boring
Jan. 3rd, 2025 10:20 amI just finished my morning coffee. I don’t think that my beat up old body works without it anymore. I suppose that it is like the old days, when you had to squirt starter fluid in the carburetor of your beat-up old car to get it going in the winter.
Yesterday I managed to get rid of a more than a couple of things that have been weighing me down. A huge and heavy old Dell 17” laptop and a Chromebook. Also out the door were several boxes/bags of books that were only around to act as trophies memorializing my virtuous reading.
I did come home with a different sot of trophy though. When I was dropping off the computers at FreeGeek for them to reuse/recycle, there was a nice young woman there who was dropping off older computers from her work. They were nice Lenovo T470 laptops with the hard drives pulled out. I asked her if she minded if I could have one, she responded “sure, they are giving them away because we bought new ones”.
I had an SSD at home that I could use and 16gb of RAM, those went in quite easily and I have a pretty solid computer for the kitchen table.
So the end of the story there is that I got rid of two laptops and a bunch of books and managed to only come back with one laptop. Overall a clear improvement. So I have a 14” for home and a little 11” MacBook Air (Linux Mint OS) for when I wander.
Mostly I am just working on getting my material life under control. I have less and less stuff and I really want to continue this process for a little while. I can see the endgame, but I have a way to go until I achieve goals. The hard part is that I don’t really have a concrete end goal, all I can do is whittle away at the problem areas until things feel right.
