Been chilling out today.  The sun is out and The Waterboys are playing in my ears.

I have been spending the morning relaxing and doing mindless chores.  Pizza dough is raising slow in the fridge.  I will be pulling it out in an hour or so to let it go into the final rise.  While that small task is happening, I have spent time getting ready to gut the data on this computer and put in a fresh install of Linux Mint (LMDE).  So today has been spent going through all of the silly data sticks where my near complete lack of organization has placed them over the last fifteen years.

The task was pretty simple.  I went through my stash of digital crap and got all the thumbdrives in one place, then went and copied the data onto one drive and went through and erased/reformatted all the drives (N=9).  So now I have a single thumbdrive with around 120gb of data.  The data is also backed up onto a removable hard drive.  Tomorrow I will continue the process by offloading the mess that is on my main hard drive on this computer.

When I am satisfied that the disconnected, unorganized mass of data that is the record of my last 25 or so years is safe and in one place, I will gut the operating system and data on this computer and reinstall a new Linux OS.

Why the bother you might ask.  And it is a valid question.  The truth be told, I trust my government not at all and the large corporations that dominate the computer/technology/internet ecosystem even less.

Everyone seems to think that if they just trust the antivirus and corporations to not let anyone peek at what they are thinking/doing may very well be what is referred to kindly as “trusting fools”.  There is a good chance that everything is just hunky dory and my mistrust is not valid, but….then again…..

So I am going to scrub everything and let my computer become a tabula rasa again.  I realize that there is really nothing that I have that is actually seditious, but one never knows.
