Cubism / Nzante Spee/ Feeling at home

Still being good, plowing the field every day writing.  I did spend a bit of time yesterday organizing how I actually organize and store and publish what I do.

As I have stated ad nauseum, I hate all things Microsoft.  So I am beating this out on a ten-year old Dell latitude E6430 (purchased for $110) last year with LibreOffice as a word processor.  Fair enough, but while I have no particular fear of the thing crapping out, better safe than sorry so I need to store things as I write them.

So I cleaned out my work Dropbox and started putting everything over there as I finish chapters.  I also keep the working copy on the 6430 and a copy saved to a thumbdrive.

As for the actual act of writing, at first I started to just keep everything in one file as an .ODF for the whole work.  Then When I finally got into the task far enough to start putting it up for other's to read, I figured out that cutting and pasting from one big file was a bit of a problem.  Also, the .ODF files don't cooperate well when cutting/pasting into Dreamwidth.  So I switched back to my old method of transferring a .docx file into Google doc's and then cutting and pasting from there.  For some reason that works pretty well.  I do have to go in and define the "cut" within dreamwidth, but that really doesn't take long.

Finally, and as an aside, having things written in chapters like this and going through the gyrations described above, it really does offer me a couple of points where I can do a quick re-read and edit for mistakes that I didn't catch the first time.
