Vantucky has a certain cachet here in deep blue Portland.  Cross the mighty Columbia and you are in a strange America from the point of view of the residents of puddletown.  

Vancouver is where folks go when they decide that they don’t want to live in a bubble.  Portland is all about making you comply.  Vancouver is about letting you be.  Oh, don’t get me wrong, Vancouver has just as many and just as severe problems as Portland does.  They are just a little different.

I think that the economic demographics are pretty similar.  But the folks themselves go after it in different ways.  Portland is the land of Michael Scott’s.  Vancouver is the land of Norm Abrams’.
