On the walk to work the other day
Not an especially busy day today, only thing really on the calendar is taking Bessie down to get the air conditioner serviced.
I am wondering just how we are ever going back to something more closely resembling the pre-COVID days. As everyone knows who drops by here, I think that the country’s reaction to and methods of dealing with a bad flu season has been extraordinarily incompetent and pitched toward a society who live in fear.
Right now, Fauci is the poster child for the epidemic. But the shine is coming off his halo recently. Gates is out there pitching like the megalomaniac that he is, somehow making the fools here in the US believe that since he is rich, he must be smart and we should listen to him. Jesus God...really, a sleazy businessman who tricked Seattle Software Works and IBM into making him rich after he dropped out of college. Yeah, right.
I genuinely fear the reaction in a couple of years when folks start realizing that an entire year has been stolen from them. All the educated pussies who write for the Times and used COVID to exorcise the hobgoblin then residing in the white house will have to be answering soon.
Look, despite all protestations to the contrary, the science of COVID isn’t established even now. The mortality rate outside of the >65 is not out of the pale and the mortality rate for the >65 seems to me to reflect more about how long that particular patient had to live anyway.
But now society has changed because of the RONA . The nature of the change is not clear, but it looks to me to be in the nature of an attempt at centralization and control. I am not certain that the government in DC has the ability to effect a positive change with this. I tend to think that the efforts will fail in an unspectacular way on the slow path down. I think that the efforts will succeed in the short term as money the government doesn’t have is freely sloshed about.
But sooner or later, the bills have to be paid. All we are doing now is waiting for the reckoning. Hope it takes a while.
