Get Used to it

Or, Farting at the Prom.
Look, the Rona isn’t a pandemic. The Rona is endemic. It ain’t going away, they aren’t going to pull another smallpox and eradicate it. Ain’t happening.
Rona is with us like the flu is with us. Get used to it, she is part of your life now.
Look, everyone always knew we were going to have to trim back the population. We are into overshoot and the population has gotta go down.
But let’s get over the idea that it is going down in such a way that anybody anywhere gets to live as long as they want to.
Any significant study of population biology has a discussion of what happens after a population goes into overshoot. Whether you like it or not, and a lot of folks with some serious tenure will shout me down for this. But the truth of the matter is that we are teetering on the point of “somethings gotta give” and all the shenanigans we read about so breathlessly are the orchestra warming up for population decline.
Now, don’t be dumbasses. It isn’t the end of the world , it isn’t human extinction, it is just getting a serious trim. A lot of us will still die old and in our sleep. We just need to have fewer folks here and there is really only one way to go about that.
Truthfully, it might be time to meditate on the Competitive Lotka–Volterra equations for a while, with an emphasis on K.
