Impressionism / Theodor Philipsen/ Brakkebroen landing stage on Saltholm

I spent time yesterday wandering about Vantucky, trying to get my bearings and get a feel about how the place has changed.  I think that I will just write two vignettes here to give folks an idea of what I saw yesterday.

Vignette One

Spent the morning searching out ethnic food stores and found good little private stores for Asian, Middle Eastern, Eastern European, and Hispanic foods.  This is a good thing and necessary for my well-being.  I try to support such ventures and stay out of the Safeways of the world as much as possible.  But on my search I passed by the old sushi place that the boys and I used to frequent (Sushi on a moving belt under little clear domes is the best sushi) and noted that the gun store in the little mini-mall had a line snaking out through the parking lot.

Being curious, and it being a gorgeous blue sky day, I stopped in and got into line.  I figured that I could chat with the gun nuts and get an idea of their state of mind and maybe pick up some 9mm rounds.  The line moved slow and chatting occurred.  No real gun nut talk, no bile spilled.  We chatted about how the ammo industry was 1.5 years behind in orders for the military and the police and how some folks were looking at ammo the same way most folks look at toilet paper nowadays, everyone agreed that politics has no other flavor than weird.

Waited for a half hour or so, having some nice chats when the idea hit me to go over and grab some sushi (the place was open for takeout).  Went over and bought an order of tekka maki and an order of kappa maki and wandered back to where Jim had held my place in line.  Everyone initially gawked at me but over the next little while everyone had wandered over to the sushi bar and for a couple of minutes there were a bunch of deplorables standing in line to get into a gun shop and munching on sushi.

They were out of 9mm and didn’t have primers either.

Vignette Two

Simple here:  While driving down Mill Plain, old guy, white beard.  Wearing a flowered housecoat, flip flops, a batman mask and a snorkel walking east on the sidewalk.
