Republic of China (1912–1949) / Huang Yongyu/ Cat and Mouse

"No one today likes truth: utility and self interest have long ago been substituted for truth.  We live in a nightmare of falsehoods, and there are few who are sufficiently awake and aware to see things as they are.  Our first duty is to clear away illusions and recover a sense of reality."

Nikolai Alexandrovich Berdyaev

"Our basic trouble was not an insufficiency of capital.  It was an insufficient distribution of buying power coupled with an over-sufficient speculation in production.

Do what we may have to do to inject life into our ailing economic order, we cannot make it endure for long unless we can bring about a wiser, more equitable distribution of the national income.”

Franklin D. Roosevelt, 1932

“They were careless people, Tom and Daisy — they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness, or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made.”

 F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby

Friday morning and a touch of oversleep.  No movement on any project last night, just kinda came home and rotted.  I am certain that this weekend I will get important things done like bottling beer and thinking, maybe head out on an outing with the sons.

The quotes above came from Jesse’s place.  I’ve been going there for years.  It seems to me to have kept a clear-eyed view of the shenanigans of the moneyed class for quite a while now.  Like all us old men, he tends to lecture more than strictly necessary, but he seems a good man and worthy at least listening to.

I think that the government/financial duopoly that runs the flow of money and day-to-day is starting to realize that we are looking at the abyss.  I have no concrete proof.  I can make no learned defense of this idea, but damnme if I can see how much longer they can keep this thing going the way it has.

Not much else to say today.  The muse is still sleeping.
