So today I am heading over to the Waterfront Blues Festival in Portland to catch a couple of shows.  I splurged and got the full pass I can go in and take two or three acts each day and still get home in time for my well-deserved rest.  Tomorrow I go to the dentist and begin the last rebuild for the mouth.  I figure that this is the last overhaul needed, it has to last ten or so years.  I can handle it.

Today's Screed

I kinda use music as a shield from the world.  Lately I have been needing it more and more.  I can't quite bring myself to do the Portland commuter "logout" with plugged in stereo headphones and complete situational "unawareness", but sometimes it is really tempting.  I can tell when I have had a frustrating day when I come home, put on the headphones, and inject a full sonic attack on my eardrums with Southern Hippy Hillbilly rock and roll music.  Country is for when I am pissing and moaning about the state of my life.  Rock and roll is when I want to party.  Punk and Grunge makes me nostalgic for my salad days of wretched excess. HipHop is really kinda fascinating and cool to listen to.  Motown just makes me horny.

I suppose that if I was a normal American, I would come home to my cable television and watch an alternate universe where people are good looking and scenarios simple and things are resolved in a neat and tidy manner.

I guess I like music because it allows me relaxation without the presumption of solving the problems for me.  Music also allows a look into different, more representative worlds without the spin that video wants to impart.  Blues is especially appealing to me because what it represents is resilience and perseverance.  I think that these are the traits that will carry me.
