Plowing the Field
Mar. 7th, 2018 07:25 amThe younger is having some troubles. Normal.
I wish that I were able to advise him better, but it the future and the direction that the world is taking is opaque to me. I can tell him the mistakes that I made and the gyrations that landed me here at the tail end of a life moderately well-lived, but the certainties that populated the world in 1974 are not the certainties that are there today.
In my mind, that is the problem. There don't appear to be any certainties. All the problems and the issues that cropped up in the last forty years have been firmly and resolutely kicked down the road by my generation. I can't take that much in the way of personal blame, but I did my part to make things worse and have tried to atone for those sins.
So all I can do is try to help, I can point out the obvious land mines and cheer him on, but at the end of the day the process of finding a way to accomplish something worthy of himself.
