Impressionism / Claude Monet/ Ships in Harbor
Spent this morning doing chores and writing this for tomorrow’s post. I let one of my new corporate masters play songs for me from my youth. Put some beans and hamhocks in the pressure cooker and got all the dishes washed. The counters are wiped down and the bed is sorta made.
Did something that I normally don’t do with my music. Went on a nostalgia trip to the sixties. The reason that I don’t do this ofter is because it is a reminder of just how far we haven’t come.
The Roman’s in the late empire tended to go either the Stoic route or the Epicurean route. Now, that is the Romans that we choose to remember. You know, the ones that wrote the equivalent of blogs. The bulk of the Roman empire just scrambled day to day within a system that was going to shit and that they were too damn busy staying alive to notice.
We here in blogoland have pretty much the same life issues presented to us right now. For the most part a blog is just a diary. The story of the world told from the point of view of “me”. But it really isn’t the story of the world, it is just the myopia of an individual who has no real control over the events of the world that confronts him.
I have been trying to move past Trump for a while now. As I have stated in the past and will state again, he was never the disease, he was always the symptom. But folks keep holding onto him as a shibboleth of evil. But they don’t seem to understand that, by continuing to hate him and making him a focus, they are lending him power.
Trump is one of the symbols of the failed America that the last two articles I referred to pointed out. Michael correctly noted that the powerful who take the vast bulk of the benefits do not see these things as bugs, but see them as features. What is also true is that the majority of Americans see things the same way, because the self-esteem and exceptionalism that they have had forced down their throats leads them to the false conclusion that with a little American know-how and a dab of hard work, they can be part of that game. This lack of self-reflection and the attendant lack of accuracy in their self-assessment makes them cheer the rigging of the game. After all, it is just a matter of time before they cash in too!
There was a saying in the fifties when America spent it’s time hating the godless commies. Fellow Traveler. Because that is what the top 50% of the country are. We have enough stake in the rigged game and enough grandiosity of belief in outcome that we make excuses for the rigged game, because….”hey, that’s my retirement you are talking about”.
Trump threatened the game and he got run out of town. He also violated the self-image of what we felt we should be and how our King should act. We like our lying hucksters to be genteel when they are picking our pockets. Trump was nothing of that, he was the brash showman who appealed to “those people”.
Nope, when I think of Americans in general, I tend to think of the Batman villain “Two Face”. When I think of our current run of presidents, all I see is the reflection of one side of the villains face
I will keep posting here. What I won’t do is engage anyone defending or attacking Fuckwad the first. Or for that matter Fuckwad the second (that poor sap has his work cut out for him and it sure looks like the Augean Stables all over again and he certainly isn’t Hercules).
I will accept comments on who we have become or where we are going.
The King is Dead.
