Symbolism / Georges Lacombe/ The Gray Sea

So what we have is a waiting game.  We have less than two weeks to go before the first age of fuckwad ends and the second age of fuckwad begins.  All hail fuckwad.

I can’t say that the dumbshow that has been occurring for the last four years is pleasing to me, but these last couple of months have been especially abhorrent.  What a shitshow and a complete lack of memory.

In a long ago time, I spent some time in the jungles of SE Asia watching a horrible group of little brown men.  Now, it wasn’t our job to do anything, we just watched them.  We reported in the ..-- world of what was then secure communication as they did some decidedly odd things.

What struck me as odd is that, for the most part, these folks were just folks.  They weren’t the monsters that everyone reported.  They were just folks who had been shit on for so long that they finally snapped.  The royal family and their henchmen (err...nobility?) had been kinda fucking with folks forever and the Japanese didn’t do anyone any favors.  So you had a population ready to rumble.

Hence the Khmer Rouge.  Very much not nice people.  Lots of weird ideas. In a country with a pretty sizable majority of the population being desperately poor and oppressed and  longing for just about anything else.  They also had a middle class with no problem using the peasantry and the lower classes as their steppingstones to comfort and security.

What happened there was nasty.  No one will ever be sure just how many died or what the hell was actually happening.  Reports vary, and I would love to compare notes with the ChiCom and Soviet folks who were in the jungle at the same time, scratching their heads and wondering just what the fuck we had just witnessed.

But I didn’t, I spent a bit of time drinking a lot and losing a couple of stripes and then getting out and getting on with my life here in the land of the free.

But lately if I squint my eyes real hard, and have a beer in my belly, when I watch what is happening, I can see the seeds of the flower that bloomed fifty years ago around the Tonle Sap.  All of this right here in my homeland.

I think that I will head over to the asian market in Vancouver to see if I can find some walking catfish for dinner on Sunday.  That was awesome tasty fare back at that time.
