Romanticism / Francisco Goya/ Two Old Ones Eating Soup / The Witchy Brew

After yesterday’s rant on art, I was smiling today because the artwork at the top of WikiArt struck my fancy immediately and triggered a post idea.  Really doesn’t get better than that.

I am going to rant and the American bourgeois today.  Now, this is low hanging fruit, but those do get picked.  Let’s talk about bourgeois retirements and the expectations hung on them.

First a bit of background on the right-field that this came out of.  The $80.00 mimesis guru-wanna-be got me thinking about this.

The retirement that is eyeballed by a great number of the boojies of my age and above my station seems to me to be artificially constructed by the different industries involved.  Medical Insurance to ensure efficient transfer of putative wealth.  Extensive airline and travel industry involvement to allow travel to places that they didn’t go because they were too bought into their careers and status signalling to make the effort earlier.

Nope, the folks at the upper end of the madison avenue mimesis buy-in are going to be the ones that are probably going to be the most disappointed by the brave new world.  They have spent forty years on the treadmill, living for later, and now later is coming and the resources that they think that they have stocked up for their delayed gratification plans are looking to become worthless in a society that is looking hard at scarcity and vanishing putative wealth.

I suppose that I am speaking of the professional-managerial class (PMC) here.  They do seem to be that class that has made out better than just about anyone in my lifetime.  Us proles (I am now a prole, but I am an expatriate of the PMC) have had our jobs offshored, our unions busted, and our small businesses closed down by corporate (fuck you Amazon).

I am thinking that the things that the PMC thinks is their due for the strip-mining of the economy getting yanked from them provides me with a certain amount of schadenfreude.  I wish I was a better person, but there you go.
