Contrast is a good thing

Barometer going up (30) and my knees are doing better, temp is in the mid-thirties and not too much wind.  I think that I will venture out today.

I am speaking here in the defense/indictment of my former co-workers in the federal workforce.  The press and others are screaming bloody murder about the proposed buy-out for the folks in the system who want to leave.

I say that overall this is a good idea.  Everyone seems to be acting like the federal workforce is somehow different than the image that held just twenty years ago.  While there are folks in government that are an asset, there is also an uncomfortably large contingent of folks that are just lazy and protected parasites doing jobs that are not necessary for goals that are obscure and unimportant.

Now, I have no problem with any folks of this ilk taking advantage of the offer to leave, but truthfully, most will hang on for dear life as they aren't stupid and know that milking the current largesse is probably the best option.  But some will take it and that will decrease the headcount of a bloated bureaucracy.  Why I approve of it is that it will probably speed up people retiring and lower headcount.

Look, we are spending more than we take in.  Government needs to prioritize and shrink.  This is a prelude to a budget fight for limited resources.  March 14th isn't that far away.  And whether you like the idea or not, the piggy bank is empty and the revenue and credit streams are looking shaky.
