One of the things that our culture gets reproducibly wrong is the assumption that everything needs to go to extremes.
I have repeatedly commented on my hopes that this little affectation that I write stays in the realm of semi-anonymity. The reason for this is simple, there are just too many people out there who feel that it is their right and duty to cast down anyone with “incorrect” thinking. And I suppose that the only way that I think is probably incorrect.
But the whole discussion of ways and means and direction that our country is presently undergoing has become bipolar and quite nasty. I think that it is going to get worse and by a pretty big margin.
I suppose that, in the current way that such things are parsed, that I am probably considered a right-wing extremist. I sure don’t feel that way though, and mostly I question the role and ability of the federal government to affect any positive change on the slope of the decline that I see as inevitable.
So that is why I am opting out of the federal elections that are facing me. I am going to vote for state offices and I am going to concentrate on the county and city elections that are coming up (as an aside, I am not all that certain that voting in the state election will be that important, but a line has to be drawn somewhere).
I suppose that I look at things differently, but the situation at the federal level seems to be more of a holy war than a rational political campaign. I would strongly recommend that folks read up on the Western Schism.
