Post-Impressionism / Tom Thomson/ The Jack Pine

We have learnt, in our cultural setting, to classify behavior into ‘means’ and ‘ends’ and if we go on defining ends as separate from means and apply the social sciences as crudely instrumental means, using the recipes of science to manipulate people, we shall arrive at a totalitarian rather than a democratic system of life.

—Margaret Mead

Next to language, money is the most important medium through which modern society communicates.

When I was taken to task for having the presumption to vote for someone my friends disapproved of during the 2016 election, I always said that I wasn’t worried about my vote, because it was what came after that administration left office that was going to be the problem.

I still hold to my vote, not defending the actions of the previous administration, but just saying that, if nothing else, the incompetence and narcissism prevented the glorious leader any traction in making too much “progress” toward the goals of the elite to ensure that the country remained “theirs”.

I am thinking that we are heading toward some serious trouble here.  Lots of stuff that folks have thought of as true are being exposed as having quite a bit of falsehood embedded.  I think that there are a bunch of issues facing us that have no solution but failure of what people are trying to accomplish.

The first issue is a declining population.  This is one of the big issues built around a lot of misconceptions and deceptive bandying about numbers.  The US population is losing useful members and gaining useless ones.  As a card-carrying recipient of SSA checks, I can tell you that, despite all arguments to the contrary, that shit just can’t last.  I shook hands with Uncle Sugar fifty years ago and I will take my $$ as long as they keep coming in,and I really am joyful when the second Wednesday comes around.

Where this is all going is that the system itself looks to be getting ready to welsh on the deal we made fifty years ago.  It kinda has to.  I have a feeling that the checks still have a while to go.  I am going to grab them as long as they last.  But I certainly don’t see them as being permanent.

I am making provisions.
