Edo period (1603–1867) / Ike no Taiga/ Chobenzu

OK, Sunday morning and the first cup of coffee is down.  Went to a birthday party for the eldest and his half-brother and actually ended up playing a game of cards and eating pizza and having a beer.  Not at all the worst way to spend a saturday afternoon.

I got Bessie back last Friday.  As I am completely ambivalent about car ownership, I had left her in the parking spot for a month or so with an alarm system that wouldn’t shut off.  I decided last week that I was just being cheap and took her into the shop for repairs and maintenance.  Then I had to spend time cleaning up the detritus of those weeks of complete neglect.

So I am back to being an average American, with enough money to get by on and a small retirement to look forward to.  But is that really average?

Michael sent me a piece of his work yesterday.  As always, the thought is quite good, and I do want to give it it’s place here for discussion and review, but I like to keep my posts around 500 words, though I am considering one longer post a week to allow drill down on subjects.  I am thinking that around 2,500 words would be a good target.  This would also allow for guest posts such as what Michael sent me.

I am also going to try and put up a blog post from another source at the end of each day’s piece to elicit discussion or tears of rage (either/or).

So going to work on my second cup of coffee now and start setting up tomorrow’s post.  Ugo Bardi is one of my man-crushes and while quite a bit of the time he raises my blood pressure, it is usually because he makes me think.
