Taishō period (1912–1926) / Kanae Yamamoto/ Fishermen

Looks to be like the hospital is going into freakout mode again.  I am still totally ambivalent as to whether or not this is a useful kind of thing, but TPTB have deigned it necessary so I will soldier on.  It won’t be the first or last time that I have received orders that left me scratching my head.

I am not looking forward to the next little while.  I tell folks to remember the shape of the curve.  Seriously, go out to the data and find historical information on the first run through with the Rona as our rider.  Look at the end of last August and use that as a useful model.  Look what happened last fall.

I don’t think that I have the answers.  I tend to be an Eeyore much to the discomfort of those around me.  But I am right frequently enough that discounting my suspicions is, while not a bad option, is not a great one either.

I am going to splurge a little this week and grab some pantry supplies.  I am thinking that it is time to lay down a little protection.

We have shelves in the garage with canned beans and various canned tomato, cabinets of rice and GF noodles (I can't comfortably eat gluten) in various shapes, buckets of legumes and GF oats, bottles of cheap salad dressing, cases of cheap caldo de pollo cubes, a couple weeks' worth of coffee beans, our vinegars and oils and baking stuff, hundreds of pounds of rice and beans... we figure we're good for a couple of months at least. Then there are the various sustaining garden products.

It occurs to me that you are probably within striking distance of FuBonn or any number of Asian groceries, where just about everything for Asian food will be orders of magnitude cheaper. (Uwajimaya is the exception.)

The university doesn't know whether to shit, run, or go blind. Everybody has to be vaccinated or have a plausible reason for not so being, but I still have no idea if there will be tables in my dining room when I get back to my regular assignment. In-person classes ain't gonna last. I expect we will see kids moving home in mid-term again. Housing just came off a year where they lost something like $45 million, and they're determined to keep their cushy state jobs save every penny this year. Yet they just spent millions on a new dorm with 9 eating places in it, but can't get the flooring installed on time or hire nearly the number of people they need. Our contract negotiation this fall should be interesting.
