Muromachi period (1392–1573) / Sesshu Toyo/ Sansui chokan, detail

Man, I am getting sick of the dentist.  The mouth, while it has never been good, is deteriorating again.  I am trying to curb the problem, but the cure, while not worse than the disease, isn't anything remotely resembling fun.  Sigh.

So, I am down a tooth.  I was pissy at first, but the filling had been in for a minimum of forty years, can't really bitch too much about that.  The kid wanted to "save" the tooth, but only gave me a 70% chance of it taking, and the "save" involved me forking over around $1,200.  Needless to say, my inner accountant said not only no, but fuck no.  So two pretty young things numbed the living shit out of my mouth and yanked that bad boy.

Dinner was white rice and beer.

Screed:

I actually began the story last night.  I am going to lay things out.  Even hijacking a story universe from another author causes one to have to study.  Actually, if you respect the universe and want to fit in, you actually have to think harder and lay down the sleazy little deus ex machina that allow authors to write their way out or plot dead-ends.

So last night I began to write the prologue for laying down the the gyrations necessary for integrating my storyline into the MOH.  Now, this is a tell of where I might be going with this, but I have always been intrigued by the idea of trans-species hybrids.  Hell, I even went back to the old SciFi canon and re-read "Jerry Was A Man" by Robert Heinlein.  Also re-reading the Dream Quest by Lovecraft.

But more interesting to me is the idea of how such a thing could occur and a technical basis for the hybridization.   Even more important, I think that the reaction of a scientist to finding such a thing would be a story in and f itself.  What I figure to do is to set up a situation where Pauling was correct in his initial postulation of a triple helix DNA.  The genes that the Old Ones insert into the human DNA are triple helix and have a completely different set of gene products that allow the talents that the major hybrid protagonist's display.

So my tie in will be Jenny giving blood to get a little extra money to go out with Owen and Tish to see Isaac Jax and the Cottonmouths.

After this, Jenny falls out of the story completely as the study she is giving blood for is completely blinded.

Hah! I like that. Triple-strand DNA -- yes, that would work, and it's outré enough to fit the Lovecraftian vibe. It's entirely in character that Jenny would consider selling her blood to raise some money, too; we know from Kingsport that, despite her shyness, she's done nude modeling for art classes for the same purpose.

This is good. Go for it.
