Coming out of my funk.  A couple of beers and a couple of gummies and a good night’s sleep seemed to do the trick.  Let’s see if it holds.

I think that it is funny when I read the pearl-clutching over the “Federal Debt” and how it is growing.  From my point of view, the folks that are freaking out are missing the point.  The government simply has no intention of paying that money back.  They do have every intention of kicking the ball down the road even farther, rolling the debt forward until no one can ignore the game anymore and then they are going to default.

When this happens, it is technically known as “the shit hitting the fan”.  You and I will have to live through it.  It is gonna suck.  It may well suck really badly.  I’m leaning toward the “really badly” scenario myself.

Now if I was an upright ‘Murcan, I would be frantically writing my congressman and other elected officials about this glaring problem.  But, why the fuck would I do that?  My congressman and other elected officials are who planned this little road trip and they seem to have no intention of doing anything to stop it.  Truth be told, I don’t really blame them for this bit of weakness.  At this point the die has been cast and we have to play things out.  We are transitioning into the endgame now.  All of the important moves that got us here are behind us and there really isn’t anything we can do about it.  We will just have to play out the game.  I have a sneaking hunch that they will need to have escape plans the same as we will.

I am hoping that the slope down is shallow and long.  Ugo tends to think that it will be short and sharp.  I hope he is wrong.

But, truth be told, all you can do is try to get to a mental place where you can adapt to the changes that are coming.  Getting depressed about it probably won’t do you a lick of good and will slow your reaction time.  All the things that are within your control need to be tuned up.  All of the things out of your control probably should be ignored unless they are one of your data points used in the analysis.  Even then, if you can’t control the data point, you can’t really get too butt-hurt that it doesn’t go the way you think it should.  If you don’t have control over it, it just becomes part of the map you are building to navigate the future.
