Symbolism / Victor Hugo/ Silhouette fantastique

I am kinda on the gloomy side today.  I have been under the weather for a couple of days now and, while on the mend, am still feeling a touch punk.  Probably head back to the salt mines tomorrow and survey the wreckage.  Hoping that it won’t be too bad but I definitely am not going to kill myself busting ass to bring things back to right because I took a couple of sick days.

This weekend I brewed a batch of beer for the month.  Actually it will be ready to drink in early March, so I am going to need to go on walkies down to the Beer Store here in Milwaukie in February after I burn up my remaining stock.

A three gallon batch of brew takes a 1.5 kilo jar of malt, an ounce of hops, and two ounces of crystal malt (I can’t stand a droopy foam) and some yeast.  Ingredient cost is $12.81 for between fourteen and 15 x 22 oz bottles or $0.91 a bottle.  Now, the cheapest you can buy a 22 ounce of beer is about $3.00.   So I am having a beer every other night at 30% of the cost of buying at the store.

So I got that going for me.

Home-cooked, home-brewed, home-grown. Good stuff. Though it isn't fair to compare black market prices to legal, our four plants each save us about a grand a year compared to when we used to go meet the guy in the parking lot. Retail has, of course, driven prices down.

Tried beer once from a kit. Really really awful. Now it would have to be gluten-free, and I am sure that is even more of a pain in the ass.

Get better.
