Mea Culpa
Don't feel terrible for a Friday. Since I worked two hours of OT I decided to treat myself to pizza and a beer instead of cooking. So that went well and then on a flyer stopped by at Decibel and had another beer to polish things off. Chatted with Bob and asked if I were to come in on Sunday afternoon could I, pretty please, pull some of his nice CD collection onto my laptop. Bob, being the Liberterian Anarchist he appears to be readily agreed, I am thinking that I will have a new football watching scheme on Sunday afternoons.
Music acquisition phase is beginning nicely. Right now I am just shy of 200 songs and around three-quarters of a Gb in data.
Screed:
OK Kids, we confess. There are more than a couple of us boomers out there that will admit that we fucked it up.
But come on, truth be told that it is really amazing that we didn't fuck it up more than we did.
Look really, any rational appraisal of the way that world has been going just kinda leads me to wonder "how the hell hasn't it gone more wrong than it is now". Really, the fact that civilization hasn't collapsed already is quite the accomplishment in my mind. For Christ's sake, the population has nearly tripled in my lifetime and we are still worried about the cost of the latest iPhone. Shit sure ain't that bad yet, so fucking kudos for us.
But shit, now most of us boomers are in the runup to taking a dirt nap in the none to distant future. I am apologizing in advance for our not being around for you to track us down and beat us to death when you figure out just what a shit-sandwich we left you. Because that shit is a comin' cher, and it ain't gonna be fun.
Now, you may probably be getting pissy at this point in my little mea culpa here, saying "why don't you fix it then"? Well buckaroo, you have to kind of ask yourself what it is that you want us to fix. Look, when I say we fucked it up, I mean we fucked it up. What you are living in is the outcome of our decisions and the fix will probably mean that when you are thinking about the arc of your life in your dotage, what you will be living won't have the stuff that you have now.
Everyone is screaming at us and generally annoyed by our antics and pomposity. Well, that ain't a characteristic solely put on our generation. I distinctly remember thinking the same thing about my Dad. I am trying to fade into the woodwork myself, so you can squawk at me all you want, but I am trying to check out of the game myself. My current life and goals are encompassed by JMG's eloquence.
Collapse now, avoid the rush.
