New Experience

I don’t know whether it is a function of my finally coming to grips with my upcoming exit from federal service, or just getting old and cranky, but I have had no lack of “not giving fuck one” about my job lately. Not meaning to sound pretentious or noble, but that really has never been my style.
I have a feeling that it is because the place is so poorly run. No one seems to have any clue about how to handle odd and transient variations of the norm. Now granted, the Rona, while looking quite odd, has way too much in the way of legs to be referred to as transient.
Maybe that is the problem. Maybe the Rona is not so much a public health emergency as a management crisis.
Now, hear me out. Look at the way that our society is structured. We tend to hire and promote folks who are bought into the system and have every desire to perpetuate the system. These “organization men” really have a tendency of being soulless. But those are who we have leading the organizations that purport to have the moral authority to lead us out of the mess that we are in.
But these organization men are the people least capable of dealing with variation. Their whole worldview is dominated by the hierarchical means of control which is their monoculture. Lip service is paid to the external mission, but primarily their allegiance is to the organization’s structure rather than the mission. Since the organization’s structure was developed in times other than crisis, the organization’s structure is most often an impediment in times other than peace.
I really think that we have come full circle back to the social milieu that predominated in the fifties. Unfortunately, we don’t have the assets that we had in that decade that allowed us the energy to grow out of the problem.
I am thinking that a lot of things will go through failure and change before we figure out which is the true path. But I am certain that the so-called “leadership” that is going to be put in place, or that is currently in place will systematically lead us down nearly every other false path before grudgingly trudging (unwillingly) down the true path.
