Missionaries

Halfway through a five-day. Feeling good. Yesterday was a bunch of running around, today is a bit of chorin’, a bit of writin’, a bit of loafing. Once I finish this little bit, I will add to my meager list of accomplishments (currently consisting of waking up, drinking tea, reading what passes as news, and getting the beans into the crockpot for tonight’s dinner).
Next is the prosaic task of grating a big flipping zucchini and getting 2-cup bags frozen away. Will decide on the fly whether or not I wish to go to the effort of baking zucchini bread today.
Now onto the rant.
I am kinda concerned about the way that the greater bulk of folks have started thinking about “justice”. The trite catchphrase of “Injustice anywhere is injustice everywhere” is beginning to get on my last nerve. I made a snarky comment about intersectionality yesterday and then thought about it later. I inserted a caveat that I would be discussing this further today.
Our escapades in the middle east are missionary efforts. These and the whole concept of nation building are missionary efforts. They are means of shoving our idea of the way that the world works down other’s throats and calling it “Justice”.
Look, y’all might not like this, but there are more people in the world who disagree with your concept of justice than those in the world who agree with you. To constantly take umbrage concerning your pet beliefs is a way to constantly whip yourself into a frenzy of angry impotence. It is a way to become a douchebag.
Your opinion really has no meaning outside of a very small circle. You can lard your worldview with visions of a world of injustice that you have no conceivable effect upon and create a vision of yourself as a tireless defender of the right, but all you will do is isolate yourself because the number of people who agree with you about everything is vanishingly small.
As a country, since the Second World War have taken up the idea that we can shove our ideas down others throats. We have used everything at our disposal to take up this missionary flag. We have also failed because now everyone is figuring out that we are full of shit.
I think that everyone should stop worrying about what is happening more than fifty miles from where you live. You should be polite to people who disagree with you and realize when and where their actions affect you and act only on those actions.
That’s it. Simply put, mind your own business. Chances are you won’t even be able to have any significant effect on that, but at least you aren’t a missionary asshole trying to prove your beliefs are “right”
Oh, and since this is a semi private diary that you have every right not to read, if you have any intention of “setting me straight”, please fuck off in advance.
