Back to the Mill

Back to work today. Not certain I even mind.
A very unproductive time off. Can’t say as I mind a bit.
Kinda getting back into the swing of things for calibrating my work/life balance. So today I will be refusing to do a lot of things that I shouldn’t have been doing in the first place. This may well cause quite a bit of consternation but there you go….deal with it.
Important decision about hobbies. I have to not think that I can exceed a three(3) gallon batch size for brewing. Five gallons is too big for the rest of the equipment and causes me to think that I need to buy new equipment. This is stupid.
First issue with larger equipment is the problems of physical size and storage. As it stands with the three gallon batch size, all required equipment can be easily stored in a small apartment. Another factor to be considered is the weight of the batch when it needs to be moved around. Forty pounds is easy for a younger me, the older me thinks that it is a bit of a stretch and doesn’t really like trying to imitate the younger me.
Finally there is the size of the finished product. A three-gallon batch yields a single case (e.g. 12 x 22oz or 24 x 12 oz approx) If I brew every two weeks (which really isn’t a burden) I can enjoy a beer every other night or so once the system is up and running. This presupposes four (4) cases of 22oz bottles as a system. Since the carbonation piece of the process takes around six weeks, that gives me a rolling process wherein my consumption matches my production.
