Get up in the morning, slaving for bread sir (that Desmond Dekker did a fine song).
Today I will be writing a report front the front lines of the industrial world. Todays report will be from the repair facilities sitting atop Marquam Hill in lovely riot town. Repair shops like the VA and OHSU are remarkably immune from the nonsense downtown. No one in a riot wishes any harm to these types of facilities as they will be the folks gluing them back together if things head south.
The facilities themselves are kinda hotbeds of the woke. That is probably fine, and I think that it is a wee bit of camouflage to show folks that they do care beyond the bottom line (which is probably true, but the amount that they do care beyond the bottom line is pretty damn small).
Today’s discussion is how these kinds of facilities come out of the collective swoon that the Rona has inflicted. Just to lay things out, I think that the country/world has been acting like a bunch of fucking pussies over this. Everyone acts as though this is yersinia pestis. In my opinion this is roughly between the level of the 1918 and 1958 influenza outbreak. It ain’t fun but it ain’t earth shattering. But that is a subject for debate and personal reflection. If you believe differently and can show me data to support your claims, well….it wouldn’t be the first time I have had to eat my words, but I am pretty caught up on the literature and I am not impressed with either the published results or the data gathering parameters. I am especially not impressed by the underlying philosophy of medicine that guides the search for answers.
Anyhoo…..
When Rona came rolling through, the bulk of hospital functions supporting the bloated and marginally effective system of medicine practiced here in the US scattered like roaches when you turn on the light. These were converted to those insipid facsimiles of care lovingly called “telemedicine”. Simply put, they provided a way to continue billing without actually providing any care and shovelling the products of the drug companies at the end-user without actually having to look at the source of the problem.
So, now that the Rona looks to be winding down (and in my opinion we are already at herd, or at least as close as we can get with this particular virus), the medical system here in the US is going through yet another phase change. Now they want to start ramping up to go back to the old way of fee splitting and malpractice that was so profitable before.
But the boneheads that fly the spreadsheets that are the heart and soul of medicine today are nothing if not mentally tortured by the fact that decisions made before have consequences. Well, they blew up a lot of the old way of doing things and destroyed the training and infrastructure that allowed the system to limp along pre-Rona. Now they want to go back and are looking at a wasted and inadequate structure that has to be rebuilt nearly from scratch and they have to explain to the fucking morons that ordered them to tear it down in the first place that their “management” has consequences.
Get your popcorn, the show is just starting.
