Impressionism / Willard Metcalf/ Icebound
I tend to skim the headlines anymore. Really don’t read that much in the way of the day to day news. A lot of this behavior is burn out. I am just sick of folks explaining to me why person X is bad and why policy Y is good and then trying to find someone that takes the other side is getting exhausting and the rebuttal is easily as oddly disjointed and tainted with emotion as the first one I read, just from the other side.
I try to find essays published in out of the way places. I read them and them try to puzzle out their slant and what particular axe they are grinding. Some of them are good, a lot of them are bad.
The real trouble is that the veil of Maya is made real here. There is something going on and the origins and the motivations are very opaque. I have a sneaking hunch that the agenda is not in the open and that we are all being played. Now, I realize that I am late to the table with this particular epiphany, but what I am worried about is the folks on either side who think that they have figured it all out and have assigned blame/truth accordingly.
Maybe it is that you have to take a side. But the truth of the matter is that I agree with old dead Jerry Garcia that the lesser of two evils is still evil. Thinking that one flavor of evil suits you better than another is simply sampling the fruit of the tree that (in an old fable) got us here in the first place.
You see, I think that we are in the unenviable position of having gotten here by any number of ill-gotten gains and are quite comfortable with the place we are in. But the edifice is falling apart and there really isn’t anyway we can hold onto what we had. There isn’t enough to go around and decisions are now being made as to who will keep the good shit and who will suck it. Because the idea of taking less is anathema to all. People are lining up behind those who tell them what they want to hear and arrange for them to keep the bulk of their loot.
Do I think that Trump is an evil liar, well, most certainly I do. Do I think that Biden is an evil liar, well, most certainly I do. Because they are just lead shadows in Kabuki theater I really don’t pay them too much attention. They will lie pleasing lies to their own that will repulse the “other” and just continue the play.
We are in the long decline. Politicians are trying to lie to us to ensure that their real customers are taken care of. Trying to grade lies as believable or obvious or that they reflect some kind of path to an unknown future seems to me to be just silly. But I suppose that if one is watching Kabuki, being a drama critic is part of the process.
I haven’t seen a decent play in forty years.
I do think that you should take two minutes and listen to this to try and understand my view on politics.
