When Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham said, "This bill pays you more not to work than if you were working”, the “you” he refers to, is not really you, unless you work for a poverty-level wage.
The problem according to Sen. Graham, is that "You're literally incentivizing taking people out of the workforce at a time when we need critical infrastructure supplied with workers”.
Note that Sen. Graham applies the description “critical” to infrastructure, rather than applying it to the low-wage workers. Republican politicians do not want to say that low wage workers are critical, because it makes no sense that critical workers are paid so little.
